That change was part of Google’s new focus for Hangouts, which will stay safe for now as a workplace communication tool in the form of G Suite’s Hangouts Chat, as well as video conferencing platform Hangouts Meet.

Last spring, it was announced by Google that its focus for the Google Hangout to entertain use cases with Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet, so the writing has been on the wall for quite some time regarding the Hangouts consumer app’s demise.

Hangouts was one of the first apps to get early support for Android Auto’s new MMS and RCS functionality.

This news is not surprising that Google Hangouts is going to be shut down by Google as it was pretty obvious looking at the current situation of it, and what’s more surprising is its retirement still being more than a year away is what’s surprising here.

Still, it is not good for the people who primarily use Hangouts within Gmail, or use it to talk with their kids or family who doesn’t have any smartphones.
